nina presents Echoes of Resistance, a solo exhibition of original cyanotype works by Kalynn Youngblood, on exhibition from February 14-March 2, 2026.
This exhibition presents cyanotype works that explore protest, memory, and resilience within Black history. Using one of photography’s earliest processes, Kalynn transforms images of resistance and everyday strength into deep blue impressions that connect past and present. Rather than focusing on spectacle, the works highlight the quiet power of collective presence and lived experience. The color blue carries layered meanings, recalling labor, migration, and the emotional register of the blues. Through this lens, each print becomes both image and imprint, a record of struggle, survival, and hope. Together, the works form a visual archive that honors histories of resistance while inviting reflection on their continued relevance today.
Kalynn Youngblood
is an artist, director, and photographer rooted in South Central, LA. With a commitment to representing Black lives authentically, she captures the nuance, strength, and vibrancy of African American experiences. Her work aims to illuminate the depth of these stories, fostering a legacy that uplifts and inspires future generations. Through her creative vision, she chllenges stereotypes and celebrates the richness of her community.
I am a visual storyteller who has dedicated the past 15 years to capturing the beauty, resilience, and complexity of Black lives through photography. My work has always been rooted in an unwavering commitment to authentic representation — creating images that honor the depth and nuance of my community. Over the last few years, I’ve expanded my practice into directing, with the aim of bringing even more layered and cinematic narratives of Black life to the screen.
Beyond my creative work, I am deeply embedded in my community as a leader and activist. Based in Leimert Park — a historic center of Black arts and culture in Los Angeles — I serve as a community art leader, working to cultivate spaces where creativity, self-expression, and collective empowerment thrive. Through workshops, collaborative projects, and mentorship, I strive to inspire and support emerging artists, ensuring that the next generation has the tools and confidence to share their own stories.
